A sunny day, following check in we inspected our allotment and chose a site for our proposed shed (avoiding the small sink hole!) We harvested some marrows, beetroot, carrots and potatoes.
We then worked on the yurt: in desperation we decided on covering it with a clear tarpaulin whilst the roof canvas is sent off as a pattern for a new roof *using a British manufacturer!). The canvas removed, the tarpaulin was hauled over and fitted perfectly to provide cover ahead of impending rain and wind this weekend. SO we achieved Rex’s aim of the week: “to waterproof the yurt” – hurrah!
A new black fridge has arrived in the yurt, and Sharon our Goth princess will endeavour to surreptitiously decorate with skulls while Vanessa is looking for stars, moons and planets – a sky at night on the fridge! Rex wold like a night time jungle scene – time will tell how it ends up!
Proceeded to lunch with pasta and egg mayonnaise (eggs peeled solely by Sharon’s fair hands) and then a surprise visitor arrived laden with Dorset apple cake and cream for dessert! We then watered the plants and lifted a stray parsnip (to check if it was indeed a parsnip) before harvesting its seeds for 2017 Christmas roast parsnips.
Finished the afternoon by sitting outside in the sun while Rex ‘dismantled’ (word from the old French meaning ‘destroy the defensive capability of a fortification’) yurt light fitting to establish how to repair/update them. A great day with lots achieved and sheer joy at seeing Alison again 🙂
